Dave Barbier is the Sustainability Director at University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point. He has served on the Recycling Connections Board of Directors for 10 years and is the former President. We recently sat down with Dave to interview him about his service to the board.
Question: Why did you join the RC Board?
Answer: The former Executive Director for RC asked me to join as a general member, and I agreed. The organization aligned well with both my personal and professional passions.
Question: What is it about Recycling Connections that makes you most proud to serve as a board of director?
Answer: It’s continuing commitment to evolve and meet the needs of the communities and region that it serves.
Question: Give a story or a moment you remember when you were helping RC grow.

Answer: I think being part of the 40th year anniversary celebration planning and all the cool outreach we did that year. The “40” made from recycling bails in the Specht Forum “Sun Dial” on the UWSP campus was pretty awesome collaborative effort with a great outcome.
Question: In 5 years, where do you see Recycling Connections?
Answer: Growing in the Near Zero Waste education and resources space and continuing to grow as a regional leader for other organizations involved in the waste management industry.
Question: In 25 years, where do you see Recycling Connections?
Answer: Harvesting closed landfills for resources and improving state legislation for waste minimization.
Question: Is there anything more you wish to share?
Answer: I’m looking forward to the 50th anniversary celebration events.
